safety
A snowmobile safety class is required for all Illinois children from the ages of 12 to 16 years, as well as for adults that do not have a valid Illinois drivers license.
The Illinois Snowmobile Education Course consists of a minimum of eight hours of instruction.
These courses cover the basics in maintenance and repair of snowmobiles, proper and safe operations, the history of snowmobiling, first aid, protection of the environment, and the state laws. As in other courses, various visual aids are provided to enhance the quality of instructions. (Children ages 10-11 are welcome to attend, however they wil not receive their safety certificate until their 12th birthday). Youngsters are also required to have a safety certificate in all surrounding snow states. Surrounding states do accept an Illinois safety certificate as proof of proper training.
Students attending Illinois safety classes MUST be pre-registered in order to attend a class. Class sizes are limited and walk-ins are not accepted. Please call the phone number for the class you choose for details as to the location for the class. If your child is pre-registered and cannot make the class, please notify the instructor prior to the class so children that may be on the wait list can attend.
